Humans cannot help but seek fear.
Why do we find
pleasure in fear?  It likely arises from the exhilaration of defying the instinct that urges us to run away. Horror movies and haunted houses, for example. These are universally understood as ways to step away from reality and experience the extraordinary.

By seeing with our eyes, hearing with our ears, and exploring our deep-rooted fears, we can reaffirm that we are in a safe space.
However, I urge you to
doubt. Is the everyday life you live truly safe? You will come to understand that a single "unexpected moment" can shake the very foundation of common sense and drag you into the abyss.

The night wind carries a sound, reverberating as it blends into the air. A soft melody passes by my ears.A tune that seems like someone is crying or laughing drifts through the space, weaving through it. An invisible hand weaves the sound, and its tone shifts like a shadow, whispering in my ear. Someone is standing behind me, but their form cannot be seen. After echoing for a while, the sound fades away, leaving only the cold silence behind.

After one sound disappears, will the next one bring with it a different meaning?

The answer sways in the shadows.

恐怖の担い手

A manga artist, a researcher, a ghost storyteller, a religious figure, a university student, a convenience store clerk... 44 artists living in different worlds each imagine and create their own "things they fear." Paintings, sculptures, clay, research materials, interview notes, light and darkness... Their methods of expression vary. What they shape is an unbearably raw manifestation of the reality, delusions, and madness within them. There are no answers. Only endless desires remain.

MESSAGE

In preparation for the event

The Kowaimono Exhibition was conceived to bring together creators from the worlds of popular entertainment and art, with the aim of expanding their creative horizons. During the exhibitions held in the spring and summer of 2025, we welcomed far more visitors than expected—and were amazed by the untapped potential that “kowaimono” (fearful things) hold.

Now, for its third installment, we are pleased to present Kowaimono Exhibition Zokuzoku. Regardless of professional status, participants are invited to freely express their visions under the theme of “kowaimono.” At the heart of this exhibition lies the joy of creation and the desire to express. We hope that the connections formed between people will lead to bold and unexpected creativity.

This exhibition serves as an experimental space for expressing the grotesque nature that lies within every human being. For creators, it is an opportunity to broaden the scope of expression and to share their work with a wider audience. For visitors, it offers new encounters and a place of inspiration. Our goal is to foster a space where these two sides come together. We are captivated—indeed, in love—with the essence of “kowaimono.”

This time, a total of 44 creator groups will participate, showcasing frightening and mysterious works of art. We invite you to enjoy the encounters brought to you through the world of Kowaimono.
